My Analysis (?) Of Mekakushi Code's Lyrics

I'm on a roll, probably. I've been wanting to write this since I found out about Kido's true nature. Yes, Mekakushi Code's analysis.

My headcanon/theory is that this song is how Kido viewed her world, or the event on Vol 1 (and maybe later!) from her point of view.



Before we begin, there's some I'm going to say. I'm going to use this translation of lyrics (thanks, Nori46) and maybe some of other translation for it, but mostly it's the one I linked. Also, I'm not going to post this to tumblr for some reason, but feel free to link this to tumblr-- it's just that I won't link it myself, ok?

This analysis consist some spoilers on Kido's personality that was revealed on the booklet that come with the booklet of the Uttatemita Hon. Go here to read the translation on that to understand this. Also please do read my headcanon theory about Kido, Kano and Seto's relationship here on tumblr, because this probably won't make sense if you didn't read that first.

If you insisted not reading those I'm going to give an outline.... Jin confirmed that Kido is a chuunibyou, and the common type of chuunibyou were the ones deluded themselves as some sort of special people, and half of the reason she formed Mekakushi-dan is because of that. Kido also becomes a chuunibyou because of gaining her powers and gets ignored a lot.

Warning; this theory is stupid, really stupid--- and from someone who haven't clearly reads the novel. Yeah, that's part of the reason I won't post this on tumblr.

The world where hopes disappeared is too fast and it's impossible to fly even a little. 

Still importing mistakes to myself.

Kido knew her delusions was all just delusions. She almost given up on her own delusions, but she still done so. Why? In the theory I posted on tumblr, I wrote my speculation that she does so because she would stand out. Standing out means more people will recognize her and not ignoring her because of her power, but combined with her adolescent phase, she completely becomes a chuunibyou. By 'hopes' and 'mistakes' I think she means her own delusions.

At present it's impossible to see as always. 

If the emergency light glows red, it'll be a surreal sight.

Not only in literal sense. This also means her chuunibyou phase made her cover herself out of reality and always wished for her delusion to become real at one point. The last bit of this part? This is why I wrote on tumblr that Kano and Seto is afraid that Kido's delusions endangers herself--- she would try to make it real so Kano and Seto which was her closest friends realized that she is not deluding about forming Mekakushi-dan. 

In the theory I once posted, Kano and Seto believes one day Kido might endangers herself to make her delusions real with her own power, which leads to them looking for female friends so Kido could be normal (Momo and Mary), but for more detail, just read that.

Even if today didn't come, taking outdated views, 

Maybe I can go forward to tomorrow earlier with you who will have anxiety disorder for life. 

Saying, "Now, now, are there anything？" 

If we pound out the beat shakingly 

It's not so a bad thing.

Well, as long as you don't get tired of it.

I can't really understand this part.

I think Kido who is disappointed that her 'reality' (aka delusion) won't come, founds out Mary (who was scouted by Seto) is quarter-medusa. Whoa, how fantastic! Of course this made her more deluded that Mekakushi-dan is not only a normal place for eye-powered children to be together (which was Kano and Seto believes), but also a group to defy the reality or whatever in her delusion is, and despite not looking like it, she is excited to finally found something fantastic besides her and her friends' own powers (the beats represent it).

But, I don't really think the 'anxiety disorder guy' is about Mary. These lyrics is repeated again in the last part, so I think it's Kano and Seto who Kido treated as so because they are so desperate in looking for a way to cure Kido's chuunibyou. So, I'll continue analyzing that part before this.

The last bit 'Well, as long as you don't get tired--' is how Kido wished that Kano and Seto would follow with her delusion until the end.

Keeping vanity under my control 

Turing left at the second crossing gate. 

I got choked up inside having expectation 

And it almost made a smile on my lips

I do heard that chuunibyous were known to be arrogant, anyways so Kido is probably like that too---- This represents her getting excited to scout Momo--- who Kano told her to be a new member (read my theory regarding that). She's excited to find more people to prove that her delusions is real (which was not all real). 

I'll act like an admirer 

Though I lead a bit too fast 

If it fits atmosphere even more 

And nobody notices that 

It's absolutely all right

"I'll carry out the mission" 

There are 20 minutes left 

It's impossible to quit, right？ 

Tying the shoelace of athletic shoe again 

"Now, there's a call. Let's go cool."

This is probably how Kido feels regarding the terrorist attack, or Mekakushi-dan's first outing with Momo. Yeah, you can guess it--- she's treating the attack as her delusion becoming reality. She might be scared inside, but most of the time she's like 'Oh cool, I'm finally going to be a hero / leader like I always wanted to'.

If the temperature is getting higher, I burn up the high-pass at once 

To the west, to the north, to be by your side on the street getting longer endlessly. 

"Hey, hey, you're a bit making a big deal out of nothing, right？ 

When the heel with golden hair laugh, 

Too bad, I guess you don't understand. 

If it's you who cannot keep it hidden.

Psst, wanna talk about something probably unrelated for a while. Despite being at the hot summer, Kido won't take off her hoodie--- well, ever watched OreImo or Haganai? Kuroneko and Kobato refused to change clothes in summer because of their own delusions. This is why it suddenly makes sense for me that she wears such a hoodie in summer.

Cough, back to analysis. The dialogue on this part is probably Momo's, who said something about 'too much of a big deal' as in Kido's delusions, but ends up just laughing it off, since Momo won't leave Kido because of finding out she's a chuunibyou. Of course this isn't in the first novel, maybe it's revealed later.

Anyone can join, there's no limit on the number of people. 

Of course, entering on the way is welcome, too. 

There're no requirements for joining. 

There's no dress code.

Even you who think yourself as a naive person 

Can join at once by saying a password. 

Oh, yeah, I'll tell you who I am 

I'm an otaku, withdrawal and neet who love two dimension and have a communication disorder 

But, I don't have any problem, okay？

I won't speculate the first bit of these parts, since it's pretty much clear--- how Kido wants Mekakushi-dan to be.

The second part is a bit tricky, since it describes Shintarou instead of Kido. I think it's supposed to be Shintarou's dialogue, and Kido said there's no problems of Shintarou joining in. Naive person? I think it's Konoha? He's the most naive one on the casts.

The alert won't stop ringing 

When the neon suddenly goes off 

Now, take off your hood.

Saying "Now now, how does it like？", 

I rubble my red eyes and look around 

Hey, it's not boring 

Then, I'll dig in

Before it gets cold.

This is probably how Kido feels about later events in the novel. Like Azami trying to ruin their world? Who knows. Now, I'm confused. Anxiety Disorder guy?

I have speculation. She thinks her friends have such a disorder because they won't believe her delusions and prevent her from proving it because it's dangerous for her.

Which friends? It only told about one person! I think it'll be the person that later ends up with Kido--- whether it'll be Kano, Shintaro, Seto, Konoha or even Momo or Mary if Jin wants to make Kido a lesbian (though Konoha is the most likely, Jin supported Konoha and Kido. Or maybe Kano or Seto, since previous one describes the same person). 

That person cares about Kido, and doesn't want Kido to be deluded and endangers herself. Kido probably have fallen in love with that person (hence her wanting to go forward with him/her to the future) but doesn't admit it (She's a tsundere for me, sorry), mostly because that person prevent Kido from proving her delusions and maybe that person only cares for her as a friend. And Kido tried to prove her delusions to that person  I think it's Kano though, since I ship KanoKido and he's more likely to do so than Seto.

.... And continuing, the fantastic things happening to Kido made her more convinced that her fantasy is real, and treats it as something that's not boring.
